An unsettling incident unfolded in Brooklyn as a 27-year-old man, Eric McMichael, was apprehended by law enforcement officers on Friday night. The arrest came after McMichael was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in the stairwell of a public housing building in Williamsburg the day before.

McMichael, draped in a gray plaid shirt, gray shorts, and thick white tights, attempted to shield his face from cameras as he was escorted out of Brooklyn’s Special Victims precinct and taken into custody on charges of rape and sexual abuse for the abhorrent assault on the young girl.

The horrifying incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday when McMichael, a stranger to the victim, accosted the preteen as she entered her residence at Cooper Houses on Morgan Avenue near Jackson Street. He menacingly told her “I’m going to violate you,” before forcibly pushing her to the ground and carrying out the despicable act of sexual assault, according to police sources.

McMichael fled the scene when another individual entered the stairwell, leaving the traumatized victim behind. The young girl was promptly taken to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

Following a manhunt aided by released images of the suspect, McMichael was apprehended by authorities on Friday afternoon. He now faces charges including two counts of rape, burglary, two counts of sexual abuse, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Disturbingly, McMichael has a history of criminal convictions, including rape and burglary in 2019, as well as grand larceny and robbery charges in 2023, as reported by NBC News 4.
