NYC giving away 100K free tickets to Macy’s 4th of July fireworks
The city of New York is gearing up for an exciting 4th of July celebration, with 100,000 lucky residents set to snag free tickets for prime views of the Macy’s fireworks along the East River. This year, Mayor Eric Adams announced that the tickets will be distributed online on a first-come, first-serve basis, giving revelers access to Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 16, and Pier 17 at the Seaport in Manhattan.
The mayor expressed his excitement for the event, stating that every New Yorker deserves a chance to celebrate under the sparkle of the Macy’s fireworks. With the city celebrating its 400th anniversary this year and gearing up for the nation’s 250th anniversary next year, the fireworks display promises to be a memorable event for all.
In the past, the NYPD faced criticism for roping off areas for private watch parties, but this year’s free ticket allotment aims to make the celebration accessible to all. The tickets will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with each user allowed to request up to four tickets. This year’s distribution offers ten times the number of free tickets compared to last year, ensuring a larger crowd can enjoy the show.
For those unable to secure free tickets, viewing areas along FDR Drive will be open to the general public. Access points include Montgomery Street, Madison Street, Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place, Brooklyn Bridge On/Off Ramp, Broad Street, Water Street, and an ADA-accessible spot at Murry Bergtraum Field.
The fireworks display, known as the largest Independence Day celebration in the nation, will kick off at 9:25 p.m. and feature over 80,000 shells fired from barges along the East River. Spectators can expect 11 new effects this year, including atomic rings, sunbursts, crackling crown jellyfish, comet fans, and more, along with 30 vibrant colors and projection mapping on the Brooklyn Bridge.
As New Yorkers and visitors prepare to light up the night and honor America’s birthday, the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks promise to be a dazzling display for all to enjoy.
