NYC mom accused of stuffing newborn into duffel bag for days cut loose: docs

The Brooklyn mom who allegedly concealed the body of her 1-month-old son in a duffel bag was released on supervision after a late Monday court appearance. Gynae Kendall, 25, is facing charges for hiding the decaying body of her son, Adonnys, in a closet inside her Flatbush apartment. Prosecutors revealed that the baby’s corpse emitted a strong odor of decomposition.

Initially, Kendall told police that the infant was with his father and had not been at the home for two weeks when responding to a wellness check requested by Adonnys’ maternal grandmother. She gave inconsistent statements about the child’s whereabouts, leading authorities to discover the baby’s body in the duffel bag hidden in the closet.

The court documents described the baby as not breathing, with sunken eyes, sloughing skin, and a strong odor of decomposition. Adonnys was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers, and Kendall was charged the following day. During her arraignment, she was granted supervised release and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

The possibility of additional charges is pending the results of an autopsy to be conducted by the city medical examiner’s office. Kendall is scheduled to appear in court again on May 26. The disturbing case has shocked the community and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of baby Adonnys.
