NYC mom of teen attacked by deranged vagrant outraged he was freed as latest victim fights for her life following heinous slashing

The recent incident involving a violent attack on a 13-year-old boy in Brooklyn has left the community shocked and concerned. The boy’s mother, Fanny Cardenas, expressed her disbelief that the perpetrator, Muslim Brunson, was still on the streets despite assurances from prosecutors that he would be institutionalized after the attack on her son.

Cardenas, a 38-year-old doctor’s office worker, revealed that the Brooklyn DA’s office had promised to send Brunson to a mental institution due to his history of mental illness. However, Brunson’s continued presence on the streets has raised alarm bells for Cardenas and others who fear for their safety.

The attack on Cardenas’ son took place on a Queens-bound C train in 2019, where Brunson reportedly stole the boy’s phone and engaged in a physical altercation when the boy tried to retrieve it. Despite being sentenced to a mental-health program instead of jail time, Brunson went on to commit further violent acts, including slamming an off-duty NYPD civilian employee into a pole in Manhattan in 2022.

Brunson’s most recent alleged crime occurred on Monday when he attacked Megan Berg, a 25-year-old woman, by slashing her neck with a broken bottle. Berg is currently in the intensive care unit at Bellevue Hospital, fighting for her life.

Cardenas emphasized the urgency of addressing Brunson’s mental health issues and ensuring that he receives the necessary help and support. She stressed the importance of not allowing individuals with violent tendencies to roam freely and potentially harm others in the community.

The case of Muslim Brunson serves as a stark reminder of the need for a comprehensive approach to mental health care and intervention in cases where individuals exhibit dangerous behavior. The safety and well-being of the community must be prioritized to prevent further incidents of violence and harm.
