NYC ties decade-old record for longest stretch without a single homicide

The city that never sleeps has just achieved a remarkable milestone – going 12 days without a single homicide. This marks the longest streak in nearly a decade, as confirmed by the NYPD on Monday.

The impressive zero-homicide stretch came to an end on Sunday night when a 38-year-old man was tragically shot in the head in the Bronx. Prior to this incident, New York City had not experienced such a prolonged period without a homicide since 2015, according to police records.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch commended the success, attributing it to the right strategy and great execution by the department. She praised the efforts of the NYPD members who have dedicated themselves to driving down violent crime to record lows.

In addition to the milestone of zero homicides, murders in the city dropped to the lowest level since 2018 last month, with only 16 reported cases. The latest crime data also revealed that in November, there were no murders in either Queens or Staten Island.

Overall, murder rates decreased by 46.6% last month compared to the same period in 2024, highlighting a significant improvement in public safety. The NYPD’s proactive measures and relentless efforts to combat crime have evidently paid off, leading to a safer environment for all residents of the Big Apple.
