NYPD cop swiped $87K from elderly Wells Fargo clients to pay for ‘Booty’ exercises, BMW and tropical getaway: DA
A rookie NYPD cop has been accused of stealing nearly $90,000 from elderly bank clients in Westchester County, using the money for personal expenses such as a butt-sculpting exercise program, a BMW, a tropical getaway, and more. Yeison Rodriguez Acosta, 27, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses related to the theft of $87,243 from 14 client accounts he had access to while working at a Wells Fargo branch in Rye Brook before joining the police force.
According to the Westchester District Attorney’s Office, Rodriguez Acosta allegedly carried out the scheme between March and September 2024, even after graduating from the police academy in May. Prosecutors have condemned his actions, stating that they undermine the integrity of law enforcement and the oath to protect and serve.
Despite his employment as a branch operations coordinator, Rodriguez Acosta entered the police academy in October, continuing to embezzle money from seniors. He was assigned to the 48th Precinct in the Bronx for field training while still siphoning funds and was apprehended while on duty.
Court documents revealed that the stolen money was spent on various personal expenses, including credit card bills, insurance, BMW payments, a vacation to Aruba, an Airbnb stay, and a subscription to a glute-building program. The alleged fraudster has been suspended from the NYPD without pay following his arrest.
Rodriguez Acosta was arraigned on a 30-count complaint, facing charges such as grand larceny, identity theft, scheme to defraud, and other crimes. A temporary protection order was issued for his victims, and he was released under certain conditions until his next court appearance.
Although not part of the group of rookie cops facing dismissal from the NYPD, Rodriguez Acosta’s case highlights the importance of accountability and trust within law enforcement. The investigation into his alleged crimes continues, and authorities urge anyone who may have been victimized to come forward.
