NYPD IDs still-at-large suspect in deadly New Year’s Day road-rage shooting of Uber driver, dad of 4
The New York Police Department has identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Bronx Uber driver on New Year’s Day. The suspect, Ehinel Troncoso, 24, is wanted in connection with the death of Issa Mbolo-Isac, 55, at the intersection of Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway in Mount Hope.
According to law enforcement sources, Troncoso, who was a stranger to Mbolo-Isac, was seen drinking at a bar before the fender-bender that led to the violent confrontation. Troncoso allegedly approached Mbolo-Isac’s vehicle, resulting in a heated exchange. He then claimed he was going back to his car to retrieve his information, but instead returned with a gun and shot Mbolo-Isac in the head before fleeing the scene.
Fernando Mateo, the spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, expressed the industry’s devastation over the loss of Mbolo-Isac, describing it as a heartbreaking event. Mbolo-Isac, originally from Burkina Faso, had been a rideshare driver for 10 years, with the last five years spent working for Uber. He was a hardworking family man who had sold his taxi medallion to purchase a home in Burkina Faso.
Mateo emphasized Mbolo-Isac’s character, stating that he had no issues with anyone and was simply trying to escape from the situation before he was fatally shot. The taxi drivers’ federation is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of Troncoso, who was captured in a surveillance image released by the NYPD.
As the search for Troncoso continues, the public is urged to come forward with any information by contacting the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Crime Stoppers website or by calling the hotline directly. The community is called upon to help bring justice to Mbolo-Isac and his grieving family by assisting in the apprehension of his killer.
