Off-duty NYPD cop raped 15-year-old girl at Bronx apartment: police

An off-duty police officer was arrested in The Bronx for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in his Co-op City apartment. Officer Ndegnior Kpan, 27, was taken into custody after a 911 call reporting an assault at his residence. The victim, who was identified as a friend of Kpan, claimed that she had an argument with him and when she tried to retrieve her belongings from his apartment, he forcibly removed her from the premises, causing visible injuries.

An investigation revealed that Kpan had an “intimate relationship” with the teenage girl, which constitutes statutory rape. He was charged with rape, endangering the welfare of a child, and assault. Kpan, who had only been on the job since July 2024, was placed on extended leave at the time of his arrest. He has been suspended without pay pending further investigation.

The reasons for Kpan’s extended leave were not immediately clear. As of Friday evening, he had not been arraigned for the charges against him. The incident has raised concerns about police misconduct and the need for accountability within law enforcement agencies. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from abuse and exploitation.
