Officials release cause of death for newlywed couple Rachel, Brandon Dumovich found in car just days before anniversary
Officials in Illinois have revealed the cause of death for a newlywed couple who were found dead inside their car just days before their wedding anniversary. Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, from Sharon, Wisconsin, were discovered by a police officer in Harvard, Illinois, after noticing a parked car with its hazard lights on.
Upon further inspection, the officer found both individuals deceased inside the vehicle. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office later determined that both Rachel and Brandon had died from gunshot wounds to the head. While initial speculation suggested a possible murder-suicide, authorities have not yet made a final determination as the investigation continues.
The couple, described as “middle school sweethearts” on their wedding page on The Knot, shared a long history together. Rachel and Brandon first met when they were 12 years old, with Rachel recalling a playful memory of stealing cologne from Brandon’s locker to get his attention. Their friendship evolved into a romantic relationship in 2022, leading to a proposal at Big Cedar Lake near Slinger, Wisconsin in the summer of 2023.
The pair exchanged vows on October 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, anticipating the next chapter of their love story. Tragically, they never got to celebrate their first wedding anniversary as their lives were cut short. Rachel’s social media post hours before her death, expressing a desire to relive their honeymoon in Greece, serves as a poignant reminder of the couple’s lost future together.
As the community mourns the loss of Rachel and Brandon, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The Harvard Police Department can be reached at (815) 943-4431, or individuals can provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at (815) 943-4343 or via email at crimestoppers@cityofharvard.org.
The heartbreaking story of Rachel and Brandon Dumovich serves as a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment with loved ones. May they rest in peace as their memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
