One of My Favourite Google Pixel Features Is Set for a Big Visual Upgrade
Google Pixel Now Playing Feature Could Get a Major Upgrade
Google Pixel phones have long been known for their innovative features, and one of the standout features is ‘Now Playing’. This feature, introduced in 2017, automatically identifies songs playing around you without the need for an internet connection, setting it apart from other music recognition apps like Shazam.
While ‘Now Playing’ is a handy tool, its lock screen display has been rather basic, only showing the song title and artist. However, a recent report suggests that this may soon change with an upcoming software update for Pixel phones.

The leaked Pixel software build reveals an updated version of ‘Now Playing’ that includes album artwork and the ability to add songs to your favorites with a single tap. This enhancement not only adds visual appeal but also makes the feature more user-friendly, aligning with the new ‘Material 3 Expressive’ design of Android 16.

While the updated ‘Now Playing’ feature shows promise, its availability on Pixel phones remains uncertain as it is currently only accessible through the experimental ‘Android Canary’ program. Despite this, users can expect Google to continue enhancing this popular feature that has remained largely unchanged for the past eight years.
Aside from the visual upgrade, many users are hoping that Google addresses the reliability issues with ‘Now Playing’. In recent months, the feature has been less accurate in identifying songs, especially new releases, which has left some users feeling that the feature has not reached its full potential.
If Google can improve the accuracy and efficiency of ‘Now Playing’, it could truly become a game-changing feature for Pixel users. As the tech giant continues to innovate, users can look forward to more enhancements that make their Pixel experience even more enjoyable.
