‘Only a matter of time’

A 13-year-old boy from Washington was recently arrested after police discovered a disturbing stockpile of guns, ammunition, and writings hinting at a potential school shooting. The teen, whose identity has not been revealed, was apprehended following a raid on his Tacoma home in response to multiple tips suggesting he had expressed intentions of carrying out a violent attack.

During the search, law enforcement officers confiscated a total of 23 firearms, some of which were allegedly homemade using a 3D printer. Loaded magazines with “school shooter” markings, as well as clothing associated with mass shootings, were also found in the residence. Deputy Carly Cappetto of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office stated that it appeared the suspect was fully prepared to carry out a mass shooting, although the specific target remained unknown.

Video footage released by the sheriff’s office depicted a chilling scene with long guns and AR-15s laid out on tables, handguns scattered on the floor, and boxes of ammunition stacked nearby. Most of the weapons were mounted on the walls of the teenager’s home, with handguns left unsecured in various locations. Additionally, authorities discovered a “go bag” in the suspect’s bedroom containing multiple boxes of ammunition and AR-style magazines inscribed with references to past school shootings.

Further investigation revealed that the troubled teenager had not been enrolled in school since 2021 and appeared to idolize previous school shooters. Photos and writings referencing notorious incidents like the Columbine High School massacre were scattered throughout his room. Disturbing social media posts dating back to June showed the boy posing with guns and mentioning Columbine and the 2022 Ulvalde, Texas elementary school tragedy.

The suspect was charged with attempted threat to bomb or injure a school, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of fireworks. Despite the gravity of the situation, his parents were not implicated in the case. This arrest comes in the wake of a recent school shooting in Minneapolis carried out by a transgender individual with a history of violence and an obsession with mass shooters.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of school violence and the importance of vigilance in identifying and addressing potential threats. Authorities continue to investigate the teenager’s motives and background in an effort to prevent future tragedies.
