Over 100 firefighters battle California fireworks blaze that leaves woman in critical condition

A residential fire in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, has left a woman in critical condition after she suffered injuries in a blaze involving active fireworks. The incident, which occurred just after 9 p.m., saw three one-story homes engulfed in flames when the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene. The fire was fueled by active fireworks inside a detached garage, which exposed more homes and brush in the area.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one resident recalling feeling the impact of the explosions and rushing to help those in need. More fireworks continued to go off, causing a chain reaction of fires to spread rapidly through the neighborhood. Over 100 firefighters worked tirelessly to battle the blaze and bring it under control in just under an hour.

Unfortunately, the fire resulted in significant damage to a fourth home and a car in the vicinity. Additionally, a 33-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while a 68-year-old woman suffered from smoke inhalation but declined transport to the hospital. Several animals were also injured in the incident.

Multiple agencies, including the LAFD HazMat team, arson investigators, the LAPD Bomb Squad, and the Mayor’s Crisis Team, responded to the scene to assess the situation and provide support. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
