Ozzy Osbourne’s Book Claims Sharon’s The Talk Exit Was Set Up
Ozzy Osbourne Defends Wife Sharon Osbourne in New Memoir
Ozzy Osbourne remained a loyal supporter of his wife, Sharon Osbourne, until the very end. In his latest memoir, titled Last Rites, the iconic rock star delves into the 2021 controversy that led to Sharon, now 72, departing from The Talk. The incident stemmed from Sharon defending her friend Piers Morgan amidst backlash he faced for comments about Meghan Markle.
Ozzy recalled, “Sharon essentially stated that her friend was entitled to his opinion, even if she didn’t necessarily agree with him. She also emphasized that not believing in Markle doesn’t automatically equate to being a racist. That was the extent of her remarks.”
Following an internal investigation, CBS released a statement indicating that Sharon’s actions were not in line with their workplace values. The network announced her departure from the show, alongside plans for workshops and training on equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness for the show’s staff.
Ozzy asserted in his memoir that Sharon was set up, a sentiment she shared as well. “Honestly, Sharon was in trouble the moment the topic was broached. It was a complete setup,” he alleged. “The individual she believes orchestrated it knew what they were doing. When Sharon feels backed into a corner, she will fight back.”
The Grammy winner also refuted claims of Sharon being racist, particularly after allegations surfaced that she made derogatory remarks about her former cohost Julie Chen Moonves. “It goes against everything she stands for. Anyone who has spent more than a few moments with her knows that,” Ozzy wrote. “To be branded with that label was unjust. It’s game over because you can’t secure a TV role once that perception of you is established.”
Despite feeling devastated in the initial aftermath, Sharon eventually moved past the incident. “After shedding all her tears and processing the situation, she lets it go and never revisits it,” Ozzy explained. “She remains amicable with many of the individuals from the show. She’s an extraordinary woman, my wife. As for The Talk, poetic justice was served when it was ultimately canceled.”
CBS announced the cancellation of The Talk in April 2024, with the final episode airing in December of the same year. Reflecting on the show’s end, Sharon humorously quipped during a podcast episode, “It took longer than I expected.”
Released on October 7, Last Rites was unveiled less than two weeks before Ozzy’s passing on July 22. In a press release, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer expressed, “If it all ended tomorrow, I wouldn’t complain. I’ve traveled the world, experienced a lot, done both good and bad. But right now, I’m not ready to leave.”
Last Rites is now available for readers to delve into.
