Paige Bueckers dances her way to clinch WNBA ROY after historic season

Paige Bueckers made a grand entrance on the Jennifer Hudson show, dancing her way to receive the WNBA Rookie of the Year award from commissioner Cathy Engelbert. This moment marked the culmination of a phenomenal season for Bueckers, who played 36 games for the Dallas Wings and averaged impressive stats of 19.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists with a shooting percentage of 47.7%.

The No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft class, Bueckers showcased a combination of efficient scoring and solid playmaking skills that set her apart from her peers early in the season. Despite facing competition from talented players like Sonia Citron, Bueckers maintained her lead in the Rookie of the Year race with her consistency and impact on the court.

In the final voting tally, Bueckers received an impressive 70 first-place votes out of 72, falling just two votes short of a unanimous decision. Citron, who received the remaining two votes, also had a commendable season for the Washington Mystics, averaging 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

While Bueckers emerged as a clear favorite for the award, her individual success was overshadowed by the Wings’ disappointing 10-34 record, tying them with the Chicago Sky for the worst in the league. As Bueckers looks ahead to her sophomore season, she will need to lead her team to better results to silence any potential critics.

Despite the challenges ahead, Bueckers’ Rookie of the Year win is just the beginning of what promises to be a successful career in the WNBA. With her talent, work ethic, and dedication to the game, Paige Bueckers is poised to leave a lasting impact on the league for years to come.
