Parrot Analytics, ICEX Reveal Spanish Content Dominance
Spain has emerged as a global powerhouse in the entertainment industry, leveraging its creative talent to produce hit content that resonates with audiences worldwide. Thanks to generous federal and regional incentives, production in Spain has surged, leading to an increase in both the quality and quantity of shows being produced. The Spanish government’s strategic investment in the TV and film industry has not only supported local creators but has also attracted foreign productions to shoot in Spain.
In a joint presentation at Mipcom, Parrot Analytics and Spanish Trade & Investment entity ICEX unveiled new data showcasing Spain as one of the most efficient and reliable sources of hit content in the world. The country’s success in the entertainment industry has also attracted Latin American producers who are setting up outposts in Madrid to take advantage of Spain’s incentives, caché, and co-production treaties with various countries.
To further expand its global presence, Spain has opened a support office in Singapore to cater to the growing demand for Spanish content in Asia. The region has seen a 63% increase in demand for Spanish content, with significant gains in countries like Singapore, China, and India. Jaime Otero, VP Partnerships at Parrot Analytics, emphasized that streamers are looking for reliable content, and Spain’s impressive 26.1% hit-rate, combined with the increasing demand in Asia, positions Spanish content as both broad and bankable.
Luis Mayoral Gabaldón, director for creative industries at ICEX, highlighted that Spain’s focus on excellence and innovation has led to a world-class hit-rate, showcasing the country’s commitment to producing content that resonates across audiences, platforms, territories, and genres. The success of Spanish productions like “Society of the Snow,” “Money Heist,” and “Red Queen” has propelled Spanish content onto the global stage.
The data presented at Mipcom revealed that Spanish titles now account for 13.5% of Spain’s global streaming revenue, a significant increase from previous years. Spain’s share of global non-English streaming revenue stands at 6.47%, with titles like “Apocalypse Z: El principio del fin,” “Invisible,” and “Cristóbal Balenciaga” ranking among the top series for acquisition and retention on platforms like Prime Video and Disney+.
This year’s analysis at Mipcom builds on the $5.1 billion revenue baseline reported in 2024, showcasing Spain’s shift towards data-validated ROI in the entertainment industry. The success of Spanish content is a testament to the country’s commitment to producing diverse and high-quality content that resonates with audiences globally.
As Mipcom continues to showcase the best of the entertainment industry, Spain’s rise as a global content powerhouse is a testament to the country’s creativity, innovation, and strategic investments in the audiovisual sector.
