Paul Bettany Addresses Rumors About Playing Lord Voldemort in New Harry Potter Series
There has been speculation that Paul Bettany could be taking on the iconic role of Lord Voldemort in the upcoming HBO adaptation of the Harry Potter series. However, the “WandaVision” star has clarified that he has not yet been approached for the part.
Bettany recently spoke to ScreenRant and stated, “I haven’t heard anything about that. I mean, I’m a big fan of the IP and I’m a big fan of HBO, but nobody has called me up about it.”
Other actors such as Cillian Murphy and Tilda Swinton have also been linked to the role of the Dark Wizard, which is one of the key characters in the Harry Potter universe. Ralph Fiennes famously portrayed Lord Voldemort in the original film franchise.
The new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books is currently in production for a seven-season run on HBO, with filming taking place in the U.K.
The cast features relatively unknown actors stepping into the shoes of the beloved characters, with Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout playing Harry, Hermione, and Ron respectively. Lox Pratt takes on the role of Draco Malfoy, previously portrayed by Tom Felton.
Notable actors such as John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, Janet McTeer, and Nick Frost are also part of the cast, portraying key characters like Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, and Hagrid.
Recent casting announcements have confirmed the actors playing members of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, including Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Ethan Smith as Lee Jordan, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, and Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Alicia Spinnet.
The highly anticipated series is scheduled to debut on HBO Max in 2027 and has already been hailed as the “streaming event of the decade” by Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming executive JB Perrette.
