Penn State should take ‘biggest swing’ on Nick Saban: Joel Klatt

Penn State is currently on the lookout for a new head football coach after parting ways with James Franklin following a series of disappointing losses. With the coaching position open, there has been speculation about reaching out to legendary former Alabama coach Nick Saban. Despite Saban’s repeated assertions that he has no interest in returning to coaching, football analyst Joel Klatt believes that Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft should at least explore the possibility.

In a recent appearance on “The Heard with Colin Cowherd,” Klatt suggested that Kraft should aim high in the coaching search and consider making the first call to Saban. While it may seem like a long shot, Klatt emphasized the importance of starting with a big swing when looking for a new coach for the Nittany Lions.

Saban, who has found success as a college football analyst and advisor for Alabama post-coaching, has been adamant about his decision to stay away from coaching. During a July interview on “Fox & Friends,” Saban made it clear that there is no opportunity that could entice him to return to coaching.

In the meantime, Penn State has appointed Terry Smith as the interim head coach while the search for a permanent replacement for Franklin continues. Kraft has expressed the school’s interest in finding a coach who can make the most of the resources available, excel in recruiting through the transfer portal, and excel in player development at the highest level.

While the idea of Saban returning to coaching may be far-fetched, it’s clear that Penn State is aiming high in its search for a new leader for its football program. Only time will tell who will step into the role and lead the Nittany Lions into a new era of success.
