Pennsylvania bus driver Kelly Weber four times over legal limit DUI with 54 students on board

A Pennsylvania school bus driver is facing serious charges after allegedly driving 54 elementary school children while heavily intoxicated. The incident occurred when reports came in that the bus was swerving through traffic and nearly hitting other vehicles before ending up in a snowbank. The driver, Kelly Weber, 46, from Boyertown, has been charged with driving under the influence, as well as 54 counts each of endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment.

Authorities were alerted to the situation around 4 p.m. on February 6th, leading to a quick response from the police. Upon arrival, officers discovered an open bottle of Tito’s vodka, two empty bottles, and a receipt indicating the alcohol was purchased earlier that day. A blood test revealed that Weber’s blood alcohol concentration was a staggering .331%, which is more than four times the legal limit. Additionally, Delta-9 Carboxy THC was detected in her system.

The school bus was carrying 54 children, including five who were under the age of 6. Some of the children became frightened by the erratic driving and contacted their parents during the ride. One child even exited the bus at an earlier stop and was picked up by their parents. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele expressed gratitude that the situation did not result in a crash, potentially causing harm to the children on board.

Weber has since checked herself into a rehabilitation facility following the incident and is expected to turn herself in for arraignment. Bail will be set at that time. It is a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences it can have on innocent lives.
