Perv teacher who texted student, 11, about ‘making out’ in class sobs as she learns fate

A shocking case of a newly engaged elementary school teacher engaging in inappropriate behavior with an 11-year-old student has come to a conclusion as she was sentenced to six years in prison. Madison Bergmann, 26, was working as a fifth-grade teacher at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wis., when the disturbing incidents took place.

The case came to light when a student’s father discovered 35,000 text messages exchanged between Bergmann and his son over just three months, in which she expressed her love for physical contact and “making out.” Further investigation revealed handwritten love notes in a folder with the victim’s name on it, discussing their intimate encounters.

Bergmann pleaded guilty to one count of child enticement and two counts of sexual misconduct by school staff. Despite owning up to her actions, prosecutors were seeking a 12-year sentence, while Bergmann requested just one year. In court, she tearfully expressed remorse for crossing boundaries and causing harm to the victim and his family.

The victim’s father described the texts as disturbing, with explicit conversations about physical contact and personal topics. Bergmann’s guilty plea resulted in the dropping of several charges, including first-degree sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.

As part of her sentence, Bergmann will serve six years in prison followed by six years of extended supervision. She will be required to register as a sex offender, have no contact with minors without approval, and face restrictions on internet and social media use. Her upcoming wedding, scheduled for July 2024, was called off by her fiancé following her arrest.

The case serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of safeguarding children in educational settings and the severe consequences of inappropriate behavior by those entrusted with their care.
