On a Sunday morning, a small plane crashed into the Long Island Sound off Connecticut, but miraculously, the two people on board survived with only cuts, according to authorities.

The Piper PA-32 aircraft went down near Thimble Islands approximately 10 minutes after taking off from Bridgeport, as reported by Newsday.

Prior to the crash, the occupants made a distress call and were instructed to land at Tweed New Haven Airport for an emergency landing. Unfortunately, they were unable to reach the airport and the plane ended up in the water, sinking shortly after.

Despite the harrowing experience, the occupants sustained minor injuries and were found wet, cold, with cuts on their hands and face, according to a Coast Guard spokesperson.
