Passenger Opens Exit Door Mid-Freakout!!!

Thanksgiving travel turned chaotic when a passenger on KLM Flight 622 to Amsterdam opened the emergency exit while the plane was taxiing at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. 32-year-old Johannes Van Heertum triggered panic by falsely claiming he saw someone with a weapon and then deploying the inflatable slide from the emergency exit.
Authorities intervened as the plane returned to the ramp, arresting Heertum. Initial investigations suggest a mental health episode prompted his actions, as he believed he saw a threat and acted out of panic.
After being evaluated by EMTs at the International Terminal, Heertum was charged with reckless conduct, criminal damage to property, and interfering with security measures. He was then taken into custody at Clayton County Jail.
Law enforcement involved APD Homeland Security in the investigation, and KLM had to cancel the flight due to the incident. The Thanksgiving travel ordeal left passengers shocked and disrupted their holiday plans.
