Polanco’s RBI single in 9th inning secures Mariners’ 4-3 win over Guardians
The Seattle Mariners emerged victorious in a thrilling 4-3 walk-off win against the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park. Jorge Polanco played the hero with a clutch RBI single in the ninth inning, securing the win for the Mariners.
The game was tied at 3-all when Polanco stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. He delivered a sharp single up the middle off Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, who had earlier faltered by throwing a wild pitch that allowed Dylan Moore to score and tie the game. This walk-off hit capped off a dramatic comeback for the Mariners.
Seattle jumped to an early lead by scoring two runs in the second inning against Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee. Cal Raleigh contributed with an RBI double, while Polanco added a sacrifice fly. Bibee pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
However, the Guardians fought back and took the lead with three consecutive runs, including a solo home run by José Ramírez in the fifth inning. Ramírez extended his career-long on-base streak to 39 games, the longest active streak in the majors.
Despite Cleveland’s offensive efforts, the Mariners rallied back to secure the win. Jackson Kowar earned his first victory of the season with a perfect ninth inning, shutting down the Guardians’ lineup.
The game-winning sequence began in the bottom of the ninth when Dominic Canzone led off with a single. Pinch runner Dylan Moore then stole second base and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cole Young. Moore scored the winning run on Clase’s wild pitch, sealing the Mariners’ victory.
On the pitching side, Seattle starter George Kirby saw his streak of 68 consecutive starts with two or fewer walks come to an end with three walks in this game. Despite this, Kirby put in a solid performance to keep the Mariners in contention.
Looking ahead, RHP Emerson Hancock will take the mound for the Mariners in the series finale on Sunday, while RHP Luis Ortiz will start for the Guardians. The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to this three-game series between the Mariners and the Guardians.
