Police claim alleged Bondi Beach gunman Naveed Akram had recorded videos outlining shooting, vowed to attack ‘Zionists’

On December 14, 2025, a tragic event unfolded at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, when Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, carried out a terrorist attack during a Jewish celebration. The police investigation revealed chilling details of the planning and execution of the attack, including videos recorded by the father and son duo outlining their motivations for the heinous act.

The Akram pair allegedly recorded videos in October, quoting from the Quran and vowing to attack “Zionists” while surrounded by rifles and an Islamic State flag. The videos also showed the duo engaging in firearms training and making homemade explosive devices. The police uncovered images of the two posing with guns and weapons in the lead-up to the attack.

The police facts further revealed that the Akram duo meticulously planned the attack for months, including making ISIS-inspired videos, crafting ISIS flags, conducting firearms training, and preparing improvised explosive devices. The father and son were captured on CCTV footage leaving a rental Airbnb property with a cache of weapons and explosives loaded into their vehicle on the day of the attack.

Upon arriving at Bondi Beach, the Akram pair threw homemade bombs and explosive devices towards the crowd gathered for the Chanukah By The Sea event. Although the pipe bombs did not detonate, they were deemed viable improvised explosive devices. The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of 15 people and left 40 others wounded, including two police officers.

Sajid Akram was shot and killed by police during the incident, while Naveed Akram, critically injured, faces 59 charges, including 15 counts of murder, committing a terrorist act, and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. The case has been referred to the Commonwealth Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, with the next hearing scheduled for April 2026.

The court recently lifted a suppression order on the details of the case, allowing the public release of the police facts. The prosecution has requested a hearing to determine a non-publication order for certain personal identification details to protect the privacy of survivors of the attack.

The Bondi Beach attack shook the community and highlighted the threat of terrorism. The authorities continue to investigate the case to bring justice to the victims and ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
