Possible mass shooting at major Florida airport stopped by sharp-eyed sheriff’s deputies: report

Sharp-eyed Florida sheriff’s deputies foiled a potential mass shooting on Tuesday by apprehending a heavily armed man just outside a bustling airport, officials revealed.

Michael Rodrigues, 41, was caught in a rental car containing an AR-15, multiple loaded magazines, and various knives parked in a restricted lot outside the Palm Beach International Airport on Tuesday morning, according to the Miami Herald.

Palm Beach Sheriff’s deputies approached Rodrigues at 7:10 a.m. as he was getting dressed outside the vehicle. A loaded magazine was found in the glovebox, leading to the discovery of an arsenal hidden under a blanket inside the car.

The suspect was taken into custody without any resistance. Some of the weapons were concealed under a blanket in the vehicle.

Rodrigues’ arrest likely prevented a potential tragedy, as the cache of weapons he possessed could have been used in a mass shooting. Charges against Rodrigues are still pending.

The quick and decisive action by the sheriff’s deputies showcases the importance of vigilance and proactive policing in preventing devastating incidents. The potential threat was neutralized before any harm could be done, thanks to the alertness and swift response of law enforcement.

The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for heightened security measures and the crucial role law enforcement plays in safeguarding the public against potential threats. It is a testament to the dedication and bravery of those who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the community.
