Powerful House panel to investigate Minnesota fraud: ‘Cannot be swept aside’

The House Oversight Committee has taken a significant step in addressing the ongoing fraud scandal in Minnesota by scheduling a hearing to investigate the matter. Chairman James Comer has extended invitations to three Republican Minnesota state representatives to testify on the alleged $1 billion fraud that has impacted the state’s social safety net programs.

The hearing, set for January 7, 2026, will feature state Reps. Kristin Robbins, Walter Hudson, and Marion Rarick as witnesses. Comer has emphasized the importance of holding the Walz administration accountable for ignoring previous warnings about the fraud.

In addition to the upcoming hearing, Comer plans to conduct a follow-up session on February 10, during which he has requested the presence of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison. The Chairman has criticized the Democratic officials for their perceived inaction or complicity in the scandal.

Comer’s investigative panel has been actively engaging with key state officials in Minnesota to uncover the failures that led to the massive fraud and to propose solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future. The committee has launched a thorough probe into the scandal and has requested crucial documents from the involved parties.

The fraud scandal, known as the Feeding Our Future scandal, has involved various fraudsters misusing taxpayer funds meant for social welfare programs. The misuse of funds has been linked to luxury expenses and foreign real estate projects. The scandal has disproportionately affected the Somali immigrant community in Minnesota, which has the largest Somali American population in the country.

Prosecutors have already charged nearly 100 individuals in connection with the fraud scheme, with over 60 individuals having been convicted or pleaded guilty. The Justice Department has indicated that more charges are forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
