Prequel Series Shows Savastano’s Rise
Sky Unveils Trailer for “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins”
Sky has recently dropped the trailer for “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins,” the highly anticipated prequel to Italy’s biggest TV export, “Gomorrah.” This new series is set to take viewers back to the 1970s and explore the rise of mobster Pietro Savastano, the central figure in the original “Gomorrah” series.
Starring 16-year-old Naples native Luca Lubrano as a young Savastano, the show is scheduled for release in January 2026 in Italy and early 2026 in other European countries where Sky operates, including the U.K. and Germany.
The origins story kicks off in 1977, following a youthful Savastano who grows up in poverty in the Naples slum of Secondigliano. The trailer hints at a tale of ambition, betrayal, and first love, ultimately leading Savastano into the world of crime under the tutelage of mob boss Angelo, aka ‘A Sirena’.
Lead-directed by Marco D’Amore, who previously starred in the original “Gomorrah” series as Ciro Di Marzio, the prequel promises a fresh narrative and a different tone inspired by classic gangster films like Sergio Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in America.”
Producer Riccardo Tozzi described the series as a blend of familiar “Gomorrah” elements with a touch of fantasy, showcasing a more picturesque version of Naples compared to the gritty realism of the original series.
Just like its predecessor, “Gomorrah – The Series. The Origins” is a collaboration between Sky Studios and Cattleya, part of ITV Studios, with international distribution handled by Beta Film.
With “Gomorrah” having captivated audiences worldwide for five seasons, the prequel series is poised to continue the legacy of the Neapolitan mob saga and offer fans a deeper look into the origins of one of its most iconic characters.
