Puerto Rico police say armed suspect opens ambulance door and kills injured man
SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica — Authorities in Puerto Rico reported a tragic incident on Wednesday, where an armed suspect violently interrupted medical treatment in an ambulance, resulting in the fatal shooting of a man who was initially receiving care for gunshot wounds sustained in a previous incident in the capital city.
This shocking act of violence has deeply unsettled the community on the island.
According to police reports, the intended target was a 62-year-old man who had recently been released from prison in January after serving a lengthy sentence for rape convictions.
The man had been shot at near his residence earlier in the day and returned home with a bullet wound, prompting his mother to seek emergency assistance by calling 911.
Tragically, as the ambulance arrived at their home in Santurce, the man was fatally shot by the armed suspect. While the medics escaped physical harm, they were understandably shaken and received treatment for shock.
This disturbing incident marks the second violent episode in the Santurce neighborhood this week.
Earlier on Tuesday, one person was killed and five others were injured in front of a club following a violent altercation between security personnel and armed individuals attempting to gain entry into the establishment.
