Rangers’ Adam Fox returns to practice in latest rehab step
Adam Fox, the star defenseman for the New York Rangers, took a significant step in his recovery from a lower-body injury by participating in a morning skate with a non-contact jersey. This development was seen as a positive sign by head coach Mike Sullivan, who mentioned that Fox is getting closer to returning to game action. However, with only three games left before the NHL shuts down for the Winter Olympics, there is uncertainty about whether Fox will be able to play before the break.
The Long Island native has been sidelined for a significant portion of the season due to various injuries, including a shoulder injury and the recent lower-body issue. Despite the setbacks, Fox’s return to practice indicates that he is in the final stages of his rehab and could be back on the ice soon.
In comparison, goalie Igor Shesterkin, who also sustained a lower-body injury in the same game as Fox, is lagging behind in his recovery. Shesterkin was seen working out with the team’s goalie coach during the morning skate, indicating that he is still in the early stages of his rehab process.
Alongside Fox and Shesterkin, forward Conor Sheary participated in the optional skate while wearing a non-contact jersey. The Rangers are closely monitoring the progress of all three players as they aim to have a full roster available for the remainder of the season.
In the recent game against the Islanders, goalie Spencer Martin started in net and faced 36 shots, allowing five goals. This marked Martin’s fourth start since Shesterkin’s injury, as coach Sullivan has been rotating between Martin and veteran Jonathan Quick to ensure both goalies are set up for success.
As the Rangers navigate the final games before the Olympic break, the focus remains on getting key players like Fox and Shesterkin back to full health. The team’s performance will be crucial in determining their position in the standings as they look to make a push for the playoffs in the second half of the season.
