Rapper Lil Poppa shot himself in front of manager after car crash: cops

Rapper Lil Poppa tragically took his own life in front of his manager after a car crash on Interstate 85 south of Haperville, Georgia. The 25-year-old artist, whose real name is Janarious Mykel Wheeler, called his manager in a panic after the crash and was advised to meet at a nearby parking lot at a Hilton Hotel. Despite the car being drivable, Lil Poppa stayed in his vehicle as he spoke with his manager through the rolled-down window. Shockingly, he then pulled out a handgun, pointed it at his head, and pulled the trigger, ending his life.

An off-duty cop at the hotel called 911, and Lil Poppa was rushed to Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a suicide. His label, Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group, expressed their shock and devastation at the loss of the talented artist, praising his depth and potential.

Lil Poppa had recently released a new track, “Out Of Town Bae,” and was best known for his hit single “Love & War.” With a discography of over 10 albums and projects, his most recent release, “Almost Normal Again,” came out in August 2025. Fans and fellow artists took to social media to pay tribute to the young rapper, highlighting his talent and the impact of his music.
