Recalled “super greens” supplement linked to dozens of salmonella cases, CDC says
A recent recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been linked to a salmonella outbreak spanning 21 states and affecting at least 45 individuals. The culprit behind these illnesses is a dietary supplement known as Live it Up Super Greens, which has been associated with cases reported between August 22, 2025, and December 30, 2025. States affected include Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin, according to the CDC.
Twelve of the impacted individuals have required hospitalization, with 16 of them reporting consumption of the recalled supplement powders prior to falling ill. The age range of those affected spans from 16 to 81 years old, as reported by the CDC.
The FDA has issued a warning advising consumers to avoid consuming, selling, or serving the Live It Up Super Greens supplements in original and wild berry flavors with expiration dates ranging from August 2026 to January 2028. The CDC recommends discarding the product and washing any items or surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled supplements.
Live it Up has voluntarily initiated a recall following the FDA’s announcement, although the products were still available for purchase on the company’s website as of Wednesday evening. Investigations into the source of the salmonella contamination are ongoing, with symptoms of the infection including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. While most individuals recover within a week, severe cases can occur in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
This recall comes on the heels of another salmonella outbreak last October linked to a different super greens product sold at Sam’s Club.
