Richard Gadd Says the Pressure After Baby Reindeer Has Been Intolerable

Richard Gadd Reflects on the Challenges of Success with “Baby Reindeer”

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Richard Gadd opened up about the overwhelming pressure he has faced since the success of his hit Netflix series, “Baby Reindeer.”

Gadd expressed that while the recognition and accolades for the show have been rewarding, the rapid rise to fame has taken a toll on him. He described the experience as a whirlwind that has left him feeling squeezed and in need of time to reground himself.

“Baby Reindeer,” which debuted in April 2024, has garnered critical acclaim and multiple awards, including six Emmys, two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and two Critics Choice Awards. Despite its success, Gadd admitted that the intense spotlight has been challenging to navigate.

Reflecting on the sudden fame, Gadd shared, “It came out on a Thursday, and by Sunday people were knocking on my door asking for autographs. I was used to performing for small audiences as an arthouse comedian, so the transition has been immense. Everyday activities like going to the supermarket now require extra caution.”

Looking ahead, Gadd is gearing up for his next project, “Half Man,” a six-part drama series co-produced by HBO and BBC set to premiere in 2026. The show will explore the complex relationship between two brothers, Niall and Ruben, spanning four decades and delving into themes of masculinity and identity.

As Gadd continues to navigate the highs and lows of fame, he remains focused on his craft and the storytelling opportunities that lie ahead in his career.
