Ruben Östlund’s Plattform, Norway’s Motlys Link for Thriller

Plattform Produktion, the Swedish production company responsible for acclaimed films like “Triangle of Sadness” and “The Square,” has teamed up with Norway’s Motlys for a new venture into TV fiction with the psychological thriller series “A Phone Rings in the Middle of the Night” (“En Telefon Ringer Mitt i Natten”).

The four-part series, created and directed by Plattform partner Mikel Cee Karlsson, has been selected to be pitched at the Berlin Co-Production Market’s Co-Pro Series. Supported by Swedish Television, Film i Väst, the Swedish Film Institute, and MEDIA Development, the project is in advanced development.

Starring Henrik Dorsin and Shanti Roney, two of Sweden’s most respected actors, the story follows Mats, a middle-aged dance band drummer who receives a disturbing text message that sets off a chain of events uncovering a dark secret from the past.

“Inspired by real events, I set out to create a different kind of revenge drama,” Karlsson explained. “Told through shifting perspectives and timelines, the series explores the themes of revenge and truth ownership.”

The series marks Plattform’s expansion into TV fiction, adding to their portfolio of internationally recognized works. Motlys, known for its filmmaker-driven storytelling and global reach, brings its co-production expertise to the project.

With a track record of successful films and series, Motlys has produced projects like “Home Ground,” “Dreams,” “Thelma,” and “Oslo, August 31st.” The collaboration between Plattform and Motlys promises to deliver a compelling and gripping series that will captivate audiences worldwide.
