‘Running Point’ Season 2 Casts Ray Romano in Recurring Role
Ray Romano Joins “Running Point” Season 2
Ray Romano is set to take on a recurring role in the second season of the Netflix comedy series “Running Point,” as confirmed by Variety. Romano will be stepping into the role of coach Norm Stinson, a character originally set to be portrayed by Robert Townsend before the creative team decided to go in a different direction and recast the role with Romano. Reshoots are currently underway to accommodate the change.
In “Running Point,” Romano’s character, Stinson, is described as a basketball savant who has become a social recluse. He teams up with Isla (played by Kate Hudson) to rediscover his love for the game and for life.
This is not Romano’s first foray into Netflix comedy, as he previously starred in the series “No Good Deed” in 2024. His impressive television resume also includes roles in “Made for Love,” “Bookie,” and “Bupkis.” However, Romano is perhaps best known for his starring role in the beloved sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which ran for nine seasons.
On the big screen, Romano has appeared in films such as Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” “The Big Sick,” and the “Ice Age” animated movie franchise.
Represented by LBI Entertainment, The Conversation Company, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka, Romano’s addition to “Running Point” comes as the show continues to garner success. The series debuted on Netflix in February and quickly earned a renewal for a second season. It spent five weeks in Netflix’s Global English Top 10 TV chart.
The official logline for Season 1 of “Running Point” sets the stage for the series: “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla must prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.”
Behind the scenes, “Running Point” boasts a talented team of writers and executive producers, including Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen. Stassen also serves as the showrunner, with Hudson executive producing and starring in the series. Howard Klein, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis also executive produce, while Jordan Rambis takes on a producing role. The series is produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Deadline was the first to report Romano’s casting in “Running Point” Season 2, signaling an exciting new chapter for the hit Netflix comedy.
