Russia warns US has opened ‘Pandora’s box’ with strike on Iran
The recent military airstrikes on Iran by the US have sparked concerns of a potential nuclear disaster, with Russia warning that the world could be on the verge of a catastrophic conflict. Russian UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia expressed these fears during an emergency meeting, emphasizing that the US had opened a “Pandora’s box” with its actions. Nebenzia called for de-escalation and offered Russia’s assistance in mediating a solution to the escalating conflict.
President Trump announced the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, marking a historic move as the first-ever US strike on Iranian territory. The attacks targeted key nuclear enrichment facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan with 30 Tomahawk missiles launched from US submarines. Trump declared the operation a success, stating that the objective was to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities and eliminate the threat posed by the country as a state sponsor of terror.
The collaboration between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was highlighted as instrumental in the airstrikes, with Netanyahu praising Trump’s bold decision. Israel had previously initiated attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, leading to a series of retaliatory strikes between the two nations. The US and Israel are now awaiting Iran’s response, with both countries advocating for a regime change in Iran.
Despite the successful airstrikes, tensions remain high as Trump warns of further attacks if Iran retaliates against US forces. The situation in the Middle East is precarious, with the potential for a large-scale conflict with unpredictable consequences. The international community is closely monitoring the developments and hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
