Sadie Sink Says Eleven Is Dead in ‘Stranger Things’ Finale
Sadie Sink made an appearance on “The Tonight Show” shortly after the “Stranger Things” finale aired, where she shared her belief with host Jimmy Fallon that Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, met her end in the final episode. The fate of Eleven was purposely left ambiguous by the show’s creators.
Sink expressed her view by stating, “What do I think? I think she’s dead. Is that a hot take or something? Mike’s story is just one last story and then they say goodbye to childhood. That’s one final tale and that’s it. It’s just a coping thing. It’s stronger [that way], right?”
In the finale’s most intense moment, Eleven sacrifices herself to prevent the military from exploiting her powers. Despite this, Finn Wolfhard’s character, Mike, believes that Eleven survived and is seen seeking refuge in a remote location in the final scenes. The question remains, is this reality or just a figment of his imagination?
Gaten Matarazzo, who portrayed Dustin on the show, revealed that he has his own interpretation of Eleven’s fate but chooses to keep it private. He emphasized that viewers have the right to interpret the ending in their own way, as long as it resonates with them and enhances their viewing experience.
Matarazzo also reflected on the tragic nature of Eleven’s ending, highlighting that her presence would have jeopardized the normalcy of the lives of those she cares about. He praised the decision to end her story in a poignant manner.
The show’s co-creator, in an interview with Variety, confirmed that there was never a version of the ending where Eleven would not be reunited with her friends. The writers intentionally crafted the storyline to lead up to the emotional moment where the characters choose to believe in Eleven’s survival.
