Samsung Galaxy S26 ‘Confirmed’ to Lack Qi2 Magnetic Charging

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series has hit a roadblock in terms of expected upgrades, with reports indicating that the much-anticipated magnetic charging compatibility may not be included after all. The initial buzz surrounding the upcoming release suggested that the new phones would support Qi2 magnetic charging, with hints like the introduction of an official Qi2 charger adding to the excitement.

However, renowned tipster Ice Universe has dampened these expectations with a recent revelation. In a tweet, Ice Universe stated with unwavering certainty that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will not come equipped with the necessary magnets for wireless magnetic charging. This news implies that the entire Galaxy S26 range may not support Qi2 charging, similar to Apple’s MagSafe technology on the iPhone.

The disappointment is palpable, especially considering earlier leaks and the unveiling of official cases that hinted at advanced charging capabilities for the Galaxy S26 series. Evan Blass had shared images of the Galaxy S26 family’s official cases, featuring circular elements associated with Qi2 magnets. However, it now appears that these elements may be designed to ensure compatibility with magnetic cases rather than built-in magnets in the devices.

The trajectory of the Galaxy S26 series has shifted from initial ambitious projections to a more restrained approach. Reports earlier in 2025 hinted at a complete overhaul of the Galaxy S26 lineup, including a Pro model replacing the S26 and an Edge model taking the place of the S26+. Qi2 charging was expected to be a key feature of these revamped devices.

Several factors, such as the lukewarm reception of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and rising component prices, may have influenced the decision to forego Qi2 charging in the Galaxy S26 series. This move sets Samsung apart from Google, whose Pixel 10 series has embraced Qi2 charging under the Pixelsnap branding, offering true magnetic wireless charging capabilities.

As the Galaxy Unpacked launch event approaches on 25 February, the absence of Qi2 charging leaves consumers wondering about the standout features of the Galaxy S26. Despite this setback, the unveiling of the new devices promises to shed light on what Samsung has in store for its flagship smartphone lineup.
