After numerous rumors and prototype showcases featuring triple-foldable designs, the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold might finally be making its debut later this month. However, there are some significant limitations to be aware of.
Renowned tipster Ice Universe recently took to Weibo to suggest that Samsung’s new double-folding foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, featuring two hinges with three sections, is expected to launch in South Korea on September 29. The launch event may also introduce the XR headset and Galaxy Glasses.
Despite the excitement surrounding the upcoming launch, a report from South Korean website ETNews sheds light on a couple of important details that could impact the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold.
Deal or fold?
According to the report, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is imminent, with a more conservative estimate pointing towards a release next month (October) and a potential rollout in November. However, the launch is expected to be limited to Samsung’s home country of South Korea.
The report also reveals that only 50,000 units of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold are planned for shipment initially. For comparison, Samsung produced 500,000 units of its first Galaxy Fold foldable in 2019 during its cautious initial run.
Reasons to be cautious
Why is Samsung proceeding cautiously with the launch of its new triple/double foldable device? One reason could be the company’s expectation of relatively low demand for the TriFold, prompting a careful approach to gauge consumer interest.
The high cost associated with foldable technology is another factor influencing Samsung’s strategy. The current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at £1,799, and with the TriFold featuring a more complex design with two hinges, the price point is likely to be even higher, deterring potential buyers.
Furthermore, the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may also play a role in Samsung’s decision-making. The report suggests that the Fold 7 is performing better than anticipated, leading Samsung to avoid competition between the two foldable devices.
As a result, it appears unlikely that consumers will have easy access to the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold at launch. Importing the device may be an option, but it could come at a significant cost.
