Samsung Project Moohan gets Rumoured Release Date
Samsung’s Project Moohan, the highly anticipated Android XR wearable, may finally have a launch date after months of waiting. Originally announced in January, the launch date has been pushed back several times, with the most recent rumored date of September 29 passing without any news. However, according to reports from ChosunBiz, Samsung is set to open pre-registration for Project Moohan on October 15, with the official launch scheduled for October 22.
It is important to note that these dates are likely specific to Korea, where the headset may initially launch before being released in other markets or globally at a later date. Official confirmation from Samsung is still pending.
The device has been showcased at various tech events, including the recent Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, Project Moohan is powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. Despite the anticipation surrounding Android XR, the mixed reality headset may not be accessible to all consumers due to its rumored price range of KRW2,500,000 to KRW4,000,000, approximately £1,324-£2,100 or $1,800-$2,900 converted.
While Project Moohan may be out of reach for many, more mainstream Android XR devices in the form of AR smart glasses are also in development. Google is reportedly working on a pair of AR glasses in partnership with Xreal called Project Aura, which could potentially compete with the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) smart glasses that retail for £379/$379. Details on these devices are still limited, but Google has hinted that they may not be available to consumers until 2026.
Overall, the launch of Samsung’s Project Moohan and the development of Android XR devices mark an exciting time for augmented reality technology. As we await further updates and official announcements from Samsung, the future of XR wearables holds promise for immersive and interactive experiences in the digital realm.
