San Jose police investigating second and third homicide of the year

Two men were tragically killed in downtown San Jose early Sunday morning, just hours before the city was gearing up to celebrate nearby Super Bowl festivities. This incident marked the second and third homicides in the California city in 2026, following the recent arrest of two brothers for the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

The shooting took place around 2:20 a.m. on the 100 block of Paseo de San Antonio, with officers arriving at the scene within minutes of receiving reports of shots fired. Both victims were found on the ground with gunshot wounds and despite efforts by paramedics, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are now working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting, describing it as an isolated incident. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and there have been no reports of any suspects in custody. The identities of the victims have been withheld pending notification of their families by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner.

In a separate incident earlier in the year, two brothers, Jose Flores (47) and John Flores (43), were arrested in connection with the shooting death of a teenager on Winchester Boulevard. The suspects allegedly shot the 17-year-old in a parking lot, resulting in his death at the hospital. Through the use of license plate readers and surveillance cameras, detectives were able to track down the suspect vehicle and locate the brothers in San Jose and Santa Clara. Both are currently facing murder charges and are detained in the Santa Clara County Jail.

The proximity of these incidents to Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara has added a somber tone to the city’s atmosphere. Despite the excitement surrounding the event, the recent violence has cast a shadow over the celebrations.

As investigations continue into both cases, the community remains on edge, hoping for justice to be served and for peace to be restored. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of residents in San Jose.
