Sarah Michelle Gellar Wants to ‘Bring Back Everyone’ in the New Buffy
Sarah Michelle Gellar is excited about the upcoming “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot and is hoping for a serious revival of the beloved series. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Gellar, who portrayed the iconic vampire-slaying heroine in the original 1997 series, expressed her desire for a massive reunion of all the characters, including those who met their demise in the original show.
Gellar shared, “It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original. We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but we also need to make room for new stories.”
The news of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” sequel series was announced in February, with Hulu nearing a pilot order. In May, Ryan Kiera Armstrong was revealed as the series lead, with Gellar set to star in the pilot and continue in a recurring role as Buffy.
Gellar praised Armstrong’s casting, saying, “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence and talent at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
The reboot will be written, showrun, and executive produced by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman. Acclaimed director Chloé Zhao will helm the pilot and also serve as an executive producer. Gellar will also executive produce alongside Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui will executive produce under the Suite B banner, with Dolly Parton executive producing under Sandollar. 20th Television and Searchlight Television are on board as producers, with Berman, the Kuzuis, and Parton all having executive produced the original “Buffy” series.
Fans can look forward to a fresh take on the beloved series with a mix of familiar faces and new characters as the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot promises to deliver an exciting and nostalgia-filled revival.
