Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trial updates: Prosecution expects to rest Tuesday; defense not calling witnesses

Federal prosecutors in New York are expected to conclude their case against Sean “Diddy” Combs today. The prosecution has relied on the testimony of nearly three dozen witnesses and hundreds of exhibits to support their claim that Combs ran a criminal conspiracy involved in trafficking women and transporting prostitutes.

The last witness for the prosecution, Joseph Cerciello of Homeland Security Investigations, presented a wealth of evidence including travel records, hotel invoices, and money transfers. These pieces of evidence are intended to persuade the jury that Combs and his associates were involved in trafficking his ex-girlfriend, who testified earlier using the pseudonym “Jane.”

Combs’ former assistant, Brendan Paul, who was granted immunity in exchange for his testimony, revealed to the jury that he purchased and transported drugs for Combs. Paul’s arrest in March 2024 for cocaine possession while on a private plane with Combs raised questions about drug involvement. When asked if the cocaine belonged to him, Paul denied it and testified that it belonged to Combs.

The drug charges against Paul were eventually dropped after completing a pre-trial intervention program. Despite acknowledging the use of illicit drugs, Combs denies running a criminal enterprise and has pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against him by the government.

Paul’s testimony also shed light on Combs’ demanding expectations from his assistants, likening their actions to the precision of SEAL Team Six. Paul mentioned procuring marijuana and a mix of ketamine and molly, known as tusi, for Combs. He also detailed setting up hotel rooms for sexual encounters, referred to as “wild king nights,” complete with items like lubricant and baby oil.

During cross-examination, Paul stated that he did not observe any hesitancy or reluctance from “Jane” regarding the sexual encounters she participated in, known as “hotel nights.”

Once the prosecution concludes their case, the defense is expected to present their case, which is projected to take a day or two.

The trial has attracted significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the defendant, Sean “Diddy” Combs, and the serious allegations of criminal conspiracy and drug offenses. The outcome of the trial will have far-reaching implications for both Combs and the music industry as a whole.
