Seattle ends Minnesota’s season-opening winning streak at 9, beating the Lynx 94-84

Nneka Ogwumike led the Seattle Storm to a 94-84 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, ending Minnesota’s season-opening winning streak at nine games. Ogwumike had an impressive performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Erica Wheeler contributed 20 points and six assists.

The game was closely contested, with both teams trading baskets throughout. After a shot-clock violation negated a basket for Minnesota, Skylar Diggins hit a crucial 3-pointer to give Seattle a four-point lead. Diggins then assisted Ezi Magbegor for another basket, extending the Storm’s lead to six points.

Minnesota fought back, with Kayla McBride hitting a 3-pointer to bring the Lynx within one point at 85-84. However, Wheeler responded with a clutch 3-pointer of her own to extend Seattle’s lead. After a missed layup by Alanna Smith, Wheeler sealed the victory with two free throws.

In addition to Ogwumike and Wheeler’s stellar performances, Diggins had 18 points and six assists for Seattle. Magbegor contributed 13 points and eight rebounds, while Gabby Williams filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

For Minnesota, Napheesa Collier led the way with 25 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. McBride added 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers in the game.

The game swung in Seattle’s favor in the third quarter, as they went on a 26-6 run to take a nine-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Despite Minnesota’s efforts to claw back into the game, Seattle held on for the win.

The victory improves Seattle’s record to 6-4, while Minnesota falls to 9-1 on the season. The Storm will look to build on this win, while the Lynx will aim to bounce back from their first loss of the season.
