Seattle Storm hand Connecticut Sun their eighth straight loss with 97-81 rout
Skylar Diggins had a standout performance, scoring 24 points to lead the Seattle Storm to a 97-81 victory over the struggling Connecticut Sun. Nneka Ogwumike and Gabby Williams also contributed with 16 points each, helping the Storm secure their 10th win of the season.
Diggins was efficient from the field, shooting 8 of 14 and hitting 2 of 4 from beyond the arc. The Storm as a team shot 32% from 3-point range, making 9 of 28 attempts. Aneesah Morrow led the Sun with 20 points, followed closely by Bria Hartley with 19 points.
Ezi Magbegor chipped in 12 points for the Storm, while rookie Dominique Malonga had a breakout game, scoring 11 points for the first time in her WNBA career. The Sun put up a fight in the early going but couldn’t keep up with the Storm’s offensive firepower.
Seattle pulled away in the second and third quarters, outscoring Connecticut by 22 points to build a commanding lead. Erica Wheeler’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter extended the Storm’s advantage to 82-55.
Despite a late push from the Sun, the Storm held on for the win and improved their record to 10-6. The Sun, on the other hand, suffered their eighth consecutive loss and now sit at 2-14 for the season.
Looking ahead, the Sun will wrap up their road trip with a game against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. The Storm will hit the road for a four-game stretch, starting with a matchup against the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday.
