Secuoya Studios to Receive MIP SDG Award for Sustainable Production Program
Secuoya Studios is set to be honored for the positive impact of its sustainable production program with a prestigious MIP SDG Award, presented in collaboration with the United Nations, at Mipcom Cannes, the renowned global market for television and streaming content.
The MIP SDG Award, established in 2020, acknowledges how advancements toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals can be accelerated through editorial, campaigning, and business practices within the television industry. Past recipients of this esteemed award include industry giants like A+E Networks, Sky, and Studio Silverback.
Secuoya Studios’ dedication to reducing the environmental footprint of production has been highlighted through its involvement in large-scale Spanish-based projects such as “Montecristo” and “Zorro,” as well as recent collaborations like “Shades” (Matices) and “The Tribute” (El Homenaje).
The award ceremony, scheduled to take place at the MIP Creative Hub on October 15, will be presided over by Caroline Petit, the United Nations’ deputy director for the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Europe. During the event, Secuoya Studios will showcase key initiatives that have contributed to their sustainable production efforts, including:
– The implementation of the Secuoya Foundation’s open-access Sustainable Filming Protocol, known as Greenbook, in collaboration with Mrs. Greenfilm eco-management consultancy. This comprehensive manual of plans and procedures has been adopted by all of the studio’s productions since its launch in 2022.
– The introduction of the Sustainable Management Seal in partnership with TÜV SÜD, a global leader in sustainability solutions, marking the company’s first audited seal in the audiovisual sector.
– The establishment of a dedicated in-house Sustainability in Production department at Secuoya Studios, complete with the incorporation of an eco manager role in each production. The studio’s executives also educate upcoming professionals in the production industry on the importance of sustainability through their involvement with the Core School University.
Caroline Petit expressed her appreciation for Mipcom Cannes for providing a platform to recognize sustainable production efforts, commending Secuoya Studios for their commitment to environmentally conscious practices. Lucy Smith, director of Mipcom Cannes, emphasized the importance of television’s ability to drive meaningful change both on-screen and behind the scenes, while Brendan Fitzgerald, CEO of Secuoya Studios, highlighted the studio’s dedication to innovation, technology, and strategic partnerships in driving lasting change through sustainable practices.
Secuoya Studios’ recognition at Mipcom Cannes serves as a testament to their ongoing efforts to prioritize sustainability in the production of content, setting a positive example for the industry as a whole. As they continue to lead by example, their initiatives are poised to inspire others to follow suit in adopting eco-friendly practices within the entertainment sector.
