Seth MacFarlane Says There Is ‘No Plan’ For ‘Ted’ Season Three
Seth MacFarlane recently shared in an interview with TheWrap that there are currently no plans for a third season of the “Ted” prequel series due to the high production costs involved. According to MacFarlane, both Peacock and Universal expressed concerns about the show’s expensive production costs, leading to the decision to not move forward with a third season at this time.
The show’s creators, including MacFarlane, Brad Walsh, and Paul Corrigan, have acknowledged the challenges posed by the high production costs and have hinted at the possibility of concluding the series with young John, played by Max Burkholder, transitioning into the adult Mark Wahlberg character from the original “Ted” film. While MacFarlane did not rule out the possibility of a third season entirely, he noted that it would require some creative storytelling to make it feasible.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of “Ted,” Peacock has not made a final decision on whether to renew the series for a third season. Universal has yet to provide any official comment on the matter.
Based on the popular 2012 comedy film, the “Ted” TV series follows the adventures of a teenage version of Mark Wahlberg’s character, John, as he navigates adolescence with the help of his foul-mouthed teddy bear, Ted, voiced by MacFarlane. The series also features a talented cast including Giorgia Whigham, Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes, and Ara Hollyday.
While the live-action “Ted” series may be on hold, fans can look forward to an animated series that was announced by Peacock in May 2025. The animated series will feature Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth reprising their roles from the original film.
MacFarlane expressed his gratitude towards the production team and crew for their hard work in bringing the first two seasons of “Ted” to life. He highlighted the immense amount of CGI work required for the series, comparing it to “doing an ‘Avengers’ movie every 22 minutes.” The team’s dedication and expertise were crucial in achieving the visual effects necessary to animate Ted and bring the character to life on screen.
In conclusion, while the future of the “Ted” prequel series remains uncertain, fans can continue to enjoy the existing episodes and look forward to new projects from Seth MacFarlane and his team in the future.
