Seth Meyers Slams Trump for Jimmy Kimmel Suspension, Attacking Free Speech
Trump Administration Targets Late Night Shows for Criticizing MAGA Mob
Following ABC’s decision to pull “Jimmy Kimmel Live” off the air, late night host Seth Meyers sarcastically sought approval from Donald Trump on his show “Late Night.” Meyers joked about admiring Trump and emphasized the importance of free speech in the face of the administration’s crackdown.
The move to suspend Kimmel’s show came after FCC chairman Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, threatened legal action over Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk. Many, including former president Barack Obama, viewed this as an attack on free speech and an attempt to intimidate media companies into silencing critics.
Meyers expressed solidarity with Kimmel and reaffirmed his commitment to producing his show with enthusiasm and integrity. However, Trump’s social media post hinted that Meyers and fellow NBC host Jimmy Fallon could be next on the chopping block.
Kimmel’s suspension stemmed from his criticism of the “MAGA mob” and their portrayal of a teenager who killed Charlie Kirk. FCC Chairman Carr’s warning to media companies about taking action against Kimmel sparked controversy and raised concerns about censorship.
In response to the backlash, Carr thanked Nexstar for pulling Kimmel’s show and urged other broadcasters to follow suit in upholding community values. The situation has reignited debates about the role of media in a democratic society and the boundaries of free speech.
