Sheinelle Jones’ Absence From ‘Today’: What Hosts Have Said

The mornings just aren’t the same for loyal viewers of the Today show without the presence of Sheinelle Jones.
Since December 2024, fans have been missing Jones, 46, who has been noticeably absent from NBC’s popular morning show.
Initially, viewers assumed she was taking some time off for the holidays, but Jones later revealed the real reason for her absence in a heartfelt social media post.
In a post on Instagram on January 15, Jones shared, “Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
While Jones has chosen to keep the details of her family’s situation private, she expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement she has received from viewers during this challenging time.
Aside from co-hosting the 3rd hour of Today with Al Roker, Craig Melvin, and Dylan Dreyer, Jones also serves as an executive producer of MSNBC’s Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret.
As fans eagerly await Jones’ return, members of the Today show team have shared their thoughts and well wishes for their colleague:
Craig Melvin
While on board the MSC World America cruise ship for a special broadcast of the Today show, Melvin, 45, provided an update on Jones’ well-being.
“I just talked to her a couple of days ago – she’s taking some time to be with her family and we talk to her all the time,” he shared with Access Hollywood on April 12. “We love our girl. It’s been nice to see how much everyone loves her, too.”
Al Roker
Roker, 70, echoed Melvin’s sentiments about Jones while on the Miami cruise ship, adding, “We’re just praying for her.”
Savannah Guthrie
On January 15, Guthrie, 53, read Jones’ update at the beginning of the second hour of Today, acknowledging the concern and missing her colleague.
In a comment on Jones’ Instagram post, Guthrie wrote, “We love you so. Not the same without you. We will see you soon ❤️.”
Hoda Kotb
Despite leaving the Today show on January 10, Kotb continues to show her support for Jones during this time.
“We love you… you are being held,” she expressed on Instagram. “You are family xoxo.”
Dylan Dreyer
The NBC News meteorologist expressed optimism that Jones will return to the screen soon.
“She misses being here – she misses being here with us,” Dreyer told Access Hollywood. “But she’s doing what she needs to do. She’ll be back.”
Jenna Bush Hager
“You are a queen and are LOVED beyond measure!” Bush Hager, 43, commented on Jones’ Instagram post in January. “Wrapping our arms around you, always ❤️.”
