Shreyas Iyer spotted at Jaipur airport ahead of return from injury in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 [Watch]

Star batter Shreyas Iyer was recently seen at the Jaipur Airport as he prepares for his return to action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025-26. After recovering from a serious injury sustained during the Australia tour, Iyer is all set to represent Mumbai in two crucial matches in the domestic 50-over competition.

Mumbai is scheduled to face Himachal Pradesh in Jaipur on Tuesday, January 6, followed by a clash against Punjab at the same venue on Thursday, January 8. The Mumbai Cricket Association secretary, Dr. Unmesh Khanvilkar, confirmed that Iyer has received clearance from the Centre of Excellence (COE) and will be added to the squad for the last two games of the VHT.

Iyer, carrying his kit bag and wearing a mask, was spotted at the Jaipur Airport, where he was greeted by officials before heading out for the upcoming matches. The talented batsman had suffered a serious injury in October 2025 during the Australia tour, resulting in a laceration of the spleen with internal bleeding. However, after successful rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, he has been deemed fit to participate in the VHT 2025-26.

In a significant development, Shreyas Iyer has also been named in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. The three-match ODI series is set to begin on Sunday, January 11, with Iyer being appointed as the vice-captain. His participation in the series will depend on his fitness clearance post the VHT matches, making the upcoming games crucial for his return to international cricket.

If all goes well for the talented cricketer, he will fly to Vadodara immediately after completing his VHT stint with Mumbai to join the Indian team for the first ODI against New Zealand. The VHT matches will serve as a litmus test for Iyer’s readiness to represent Team India once again after a lengthy period on the sidelines due to injury.

Overall, the cricketing fraternity eagerly awaits Shreyas Iyer’s comeback, hoping to see the dynamic batsman back in action and contributing significantly to Mumbai’s campaign in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Indian team’s success in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
