Sicko allegedly tried to get teen girl he met on Roblox to kill herself after sending him nudes
An accused predator, Landen Westfall, 24, was arrested in Athens, Alabama on over 260 charges of indecent behavior with a child after allegedly coercing a teenage girl he met on Roblox into sending nude photos and attempting to get her to commit suicide, as reported by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.
According to authorities, Westfall met the teenage girl from Louisiana on Roblox and later moved their conversations to other platforms. The interactions turned sinister when they started having video chats, during which Westfall allegedly became verbally abusive and threatening towards the girl. He reportedly coerced her into self-harm and encouraged her to take her own life on two occasions.
Westfall was taken into custody and booked on two counts of criminal assistance to suicide, 261 counts of indecent behavior with a child, and 15 counts of pornography involving a juvenile. His bail was set at $750,000, and federal charges are pending as the FBI continues its investigation.
Sheriff Craig Webre issued a warning to parents about the dangers of online predators, emphasizing the need for open communication with children and monitoring their online activities. He highlighted the importance of being aware that seemingly innocent platforms like Roblox can be exploited by predators.
In response to such incidents, Roblox implemented age checks for its 151 million users to ensure that kids only interact with players of a similar age group. Chat functions for children under 9 are disabled by default, and parental consent is required following an age verification process.
David R. Fitzgibbons, the special agent in charge of the FBI in Birmingham, emphasized the need for vigilance in addressing online crimes, stating that crime knows no boundaries and should not be underestimated.
The case involving Westfall serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with online interactions and the importance of parental supervision and awareness in protecting children from potential harm.
