‘Slender Man’ stabber’s troubled trans bestie would sneak through window to visit her in custody

The transgender friend who was arrested alongside escaped “Slender Man” stabber Morgan Geyser has a history of arrests, including for domestic abuse. Chad Mecca, 43, was apprehended with Geyser at a truck stop in Poysen, Illinois, just over 24 hours after Geyser had removed her ankle monitor and fled from the group home she was supposed to stay in over 150 miles away in Madison, Wisconsin.

Mecca, who goes by a transgender identity and is listed as male in the arrest report, has a record of multiple arrests, as per court records. In February of last year, Mecca faced charges of disorderly conduct/domestic violence and battery in a domestic abuse incident in Rock County, Wisconsin. Mecca pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a fine, while the battery charge was dismissed. Additionally, Mecca has been charged with various traffic offenses such as driving with a suspended license, running a red light, and not wearing a seat belt.

Mecca met Geyser recently at a church in Madison, and the nature of their relationship is not explicitly stated by authorities. Mecca would sneak into the group home where Geyser was residing by climbing through her window, as revealed in the arrest report from their apprehension in Posen. The report also mentioned that Geyser and Mecca had discussed potentially traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, although the reason for this plan was not disclosed.

Reportedly, Mecca was unhappy with how Geyser was being treated at the group home, prompting the decision to run away. Despite health authorities warning of concerning “red flags” that warranted Geyser being kept in a psychiatric hospital, she was allowed to move to the group home in March. The pair traveled from Wisconsin to Chicago on a Greyhound Bus before making their way to Posen, where they ran out of money and were caught at a gas station.

Mecca was charged with criminal trespass and obstructing identification, while Geyser was processed on a nationwide extradition warrant and expected to appear in court. In 2014, Geyser and another girl, Anissa Weier, lured a classmate into the woods and stabbed her 19 times. Geyser pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and spent time in a mental hospital before transitioning to a group home earlier this year.
